Text 27 Jun 1 note Welcome aboard, explorers!

Anyone ever heard of This Book Will Change Your Life by Benrik?

Well, I now own it and it’s full of all sorts of crazy tasks. I’m pretty sure a lot of it is meant to be a joke, but I find it entertaining and so I’ve been picking a page at random and doing the task. I’ve only flipped to real easy ones so far. Today is no different. The task?

“What is the meaning of life? Today solve that eternal problem by looking it up in the dictionary.”

Sure, why not. Here’s what I got:

Life (cf. biota) is a characteristic that distinguishes objects that have self-sustaining biological processes from those that do not The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th edition, published by Houghton Mifflin Company

I’m not at all impressed with the results. The dictionary is a cold, hard book of logic with no soul. It makes me wonder about the people who MAKE dictionaries. Who thinks up the definitions? Cold, hard people of logic with no soul?

Also:

Who is the doctor’s doctor? Who is the dentist’s dentist? Who is the mailman’s mailman? Who puts out the fire if a fireman’s house burns down? Who delivers an obstetrician’s baby? Who trained the personal trainer? Who cuts the hairdresser’s hair?

That could go on for a while, but I’m drawing blanks now.

Instead of parting words, here’s a parting of picture of my cat. Yep, I’m that person. The cat person.
